Our Guruvayur visit july 6 to 8th

It was wonderful visit we had. We started here on airdeccan on friday and reached Guruvayur http://www.guruvayurdevaswom.org/ friday night. We stayed at http://www.krishnainn.com/
It is a temple rich with legend, tradition and festivals. Legend has it that Guru, the preceptor of gods (Brihaspathi), and Vaayu, the wind God, established this temple.Guruvayoor also is known as the Dwaraka of the South. Devotees make many offerings to propitiate the deity for health, peace and prosperity.
The temple according of belief, was constructed by Guru and Vayu. Guru (Brahaspathy - the preceptor of God) and Vayu (God of wind)Idol of Guruvayoorappan was worshiped by Vishnu himself in Vaikundha Vishnu handed over to Brahma, he gave it to Suthpas. From him Kasyapa and later to Vasudeva. From Vasudeva it reached Srikrishna and He kept it in Dwaraka and worshiped. When dwaraka got submerged, he told brihispathy to take the idol and instal in proper place. guru and vayu went in search of most holy place. Parasuram invited them to Kerala and they reached Rudratheertha where Siva was doing tapas. Seeing Guru and Vayu, Siva came up from the water, recieved them and told "this is the most holy place for installation". This place had been marked for long ago for the divine idol of Narayana worshiped by Narayan himself. Siva and Parvathy moved to opposite bank at Mammiyoor. Siva asked Guru and Vayu to perform installation. From this day, this place was known as Guruvayoor. So the visit to Guruvayoor is incomplete without visiting Mammiyoor.Idol is made up to extra ordinary stone called 'Pataalanjana Sila'.

Early morning of sat day we had Nirmalaya Darshan followed by Vaakachaarthu, Malar Nivedyam, Usha pooja and Pantheeradi Pooja. Intersting part is after 930PM where they celebrate Vilakku. The Sreekovil remains closed during this time. On the day of Special illuminations called "Vilakku" The Thripuka is performed after that. The Sreekovil will be closed after Thripuka. Then the Krishnanattam, a colourful traditional dance-drama on Lord Krishna's life is enacted inside the Temple on specified days.

There are lots of temples in and around Guruvayur like Parthasarathy Temple, THiruvenkatachalapathy temple, Mammiyur Shiva temple, Chowallore Shiva temple and Narayanankulangara Bhagavati temple.

At a distance (25 to 50 km)we also have Sree Rama temple, Kodungallore Bhagavathi temple, Koodalmanikyam Bharata temple and Irinjalakuda temples.

On the way to Kochin, we go thru Thrissur and at Thrissur we have 3 important temples i.e Vadakunnathan temple, Parmekkavu Bhagavathy temle and THiruvambadi temple and of course Elephants shrine.

On the other side probably towards ernakulam we have alathiyur Hanuman temple, KadamPuzha Bagavati Temple, Nelluvai Dhanvantri Temple and Thiruvillamala Sreerama Temple.

Overall it was very good visit and long outstanding.
