Separate hype from reality

Yesterday I was talking to one of my old friends and I heard him saying that things are not good as expected in his office (unfortunately his current employer is my previous employer). Does he get an impression that I hyped when I was working there or did he understand the reality of changes happening after I left? Well, it is known that every office cannot be good for all 365 days? Agree or not? Per me best approach is to understand the reality and separate from the hype normally projected. If someone says, he is doing excellent at his job or his work is the greatest and latest in the world, need to step back and understand what is going on? Not that we need to criticize the effort of others but understand the value of the work. It may not be possible for me to understand the value if someone says he or she is working in brain stimulation for Parkinsonism disease. But at the ground level, understand the reality. Also, as I said earlier, same experience may not be good for others. My experience with Dell as Delivery Manager was different from others who are working in the same situation. I was the only manager for my entire application and no program managers. I always used to interact with each of the members to understand issues and concerns both technically and individually. As experiencing the experience is purely individual’s purview and cannot be compared with others’ experiences.
